Louisiana physicians holding a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) license must complete a one-time, 3-hour Category 1 board-approved Continuing Medical Education (CME) course prior to their initial license renewal. CE Broker does not currently host or offer these specific board-approved CDS courses directly within the CE Broker Course Search directory. To fulfill this requirement, you must locate an approved course through the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners (LSBME) website and complete it through an authorized provider.
Required CDS Course Topics
The 3-hour board-approved CME course must include instruction on each of the following required topics:
Best practices for prescribing Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS)
Drug diversion training
Appropriate treatment for addiction
Management and treatment of chronic pain
How to Locate Approved CDS Courses
Open your web browser and access the official LSBME CDS approved courses web page.
Review the list of board-approved CME courses and authorized education providers listed on the LSBME site.
Select your preferred education provider from the approved list.
Register for and complete the 3-hour CME course directly on the selected provider's platform.
Save a copy of your course completion certificate for your records once finished.

Reporting Your Completed Course
After completing the course, confirm whether your education provider automatically reports course completions to CE Broker. If your provider does not submit electronic rosters, log into your account, click the Report CE button, and manually submit your completion certificate for compliance tracking.
