If you are renewing your license for the first time and you were licensed in the first year of the renewal cycle, you must complete all hours listed above and 1 hour in HIV/AIDS.
If you are renewing your license for the first time and you were licensed in the second year of the renewal cycle, you must complete 1 hour in HIV/AIDS, 1 hour in Florida Laws and Rules (must be live), 1 hour in Professional & Medical Ethics (must be live), 1 hour in Federal and State Laws Related to the Prescribing of Controlled Substances (must be live), and 2 hours in Medical Errors (must be live).
You may receive up to 10 hours of CME credit for providing pro-bono medical services to indigent or underserved populations in areas of critical need in Florida. These hours may not be substituted for AOA Category 1-A Hours.
Home study may be used to complete a maximum of 8 hours per biennium. Home study courses must be approved by one of the following: American Osteopathic Association (AOA), American Medical Association (AMA), Florida Osteopathic Medical Association (FOMA), or College or University Extension Course.
Earn 3 to 5 hours in risk management for attending disciplinary meetings at a regular meeting of the Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
* Medical Errors, Florida Laws and Rules, Professional and Medical Ethics, Federal and State Laws Related to the Prescribing of Controlled Substances, and Domestic Violence courses do not have to be AOA Cat I hours.
** If you are registered with the DEA to prescribe controlled substances you must complete a 2 hour course in Prescribing Controlled Substances. The course must be completed by Jan 31, 2019 and will be required every license period thereafter.
