What if it’s after January 15th? Can I still complete CE for that cycle?
Any CE completed after 01/15 will not apply to the previous cycle or the upcoming 01/31 renewal. Then, CE completed after the 15th will apply to the previous cycle.
To reactivate a lapsed license, the board requires you to complete CE for only the current renewal cycle; no additional CE is required. This is a recent rule change from the board
Once you have completed all the required CE, you’ll need to contact your board for assistance.
*Note that this does not apply to Barber professions.
Why is my CE cycle date incorrect?
Your board sends CE Broker updated information every Saturday. We recommend allowing at least one week from the time you renew for the updates to take place. After one week, if the CE cycle date has not been updated, please contact CE Broker for assistance.
Why are there no courses listed in the course search?
Courses approved by the Ohio Board of Cosmetology expire on January 15th of odd years (e.g., 2021, 2023, 2025). Once a course expires, it is removed from CE Broker's Course Search.
Approved courses became available on February 1, 2023. We recommend that you check the course search for updated courses or contact your preferred educational provider directly. All courses will be removed from the course search at 8 p.m. on 1/15/2025 and will expire at midnight on the same day. You will receive a couple of emails reminding you of this.
I just completed a “Take it Here” course. Why can't I access my certificate?
If you completed a “Take it Here” course from CE Broker and cannot access the certificate, it's possible the course expired before you completed it.
Courses approved by the Ohio Board of Cosmetology expire on January 15th of odd years (e.g., 2021, 2023, 2025).
If you encounter the error “Oops! There was an error, and we couldn't load the applicable hours for you,” this means the course expired before you completed it.
How do I renew my license?
Once you have completed all your required CEs and the compliance status in your CE Broker account is reflected as Complete, you need to log in to the Ohio eLicense system, go to your DASHBOARD, click on OPTIONS, and renew.
The CE compliance status in your CE Broker account must be Complete before you can renew your license on the board's website because this is a hard-stop board.
If reactivating a license, you are no longer required to show proof of CE for previous cycles.
The following exemptions are reported directly to CE Broker by the Board and do not require reporting by the licensee:
- Licensees who are over 65 years old.
- Licensees who have held their license for more than 30 years.
