Ohio Barber licenses expire on August 31, 2026. All continuing education (CE) courses for the current renewal cycle must be purchased and completed before course expiration on August 16, 2026, at 12:01 AM EST to satisfy renewal requirements.
Important Dates and Deadlines for Ohio Barbers
August 15, 2026 (8:00 PM EST): Course purchasing disabled. All active courses in CE Broker become unavailable for purchase.
August 16, 2026 (12:01 AM EST): Course expiration. Uncompleted courses expire and cannot be completed for current renewal credit.
August 16, 2026 (12:01 AM EST): Self-reporting opens. Barber professions can manually report missing education.
August 31, 2026 (11:59 PM EST): Self-reporting closes. Deadline to manually submit missing CE hours for the current cycle.
September 1, 2026 (12:01 AM EST): New course availability. Courses for the 2028 renewal cycle become available in the CE Broker Course Search.
What happens if CE is completed after August 15?
Continuing education completed after August 15 will not count toward the August 31 license renewal, and your license will become lapsed. To reactivate a lapsed license, the board only requires completion of the required CE for the current renewal cycle without extra penalty hours.
After completing the required hours, contact the Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board directly for assistance with license reactivation.
*Note that this does not apply to Cosmetology professions.
Why are there no courses listed in the course search?
Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board courses are inactivated for purchase starting 08/15/2026 at 8:00 PM EST, and expire at 12:01 AM EST on 08/16/2026. Once expired, courses are removed from CE Broker's course search.
New courses for the 2028 renewal cycle become visible in course search starting 09/01/2026 at 12:01 AM EST. Providers can begin submitting new course applications on 08/16/2026 for the 09/01/2026 date.
If you don't see courses between 08/16 and 09/01, this is expected — check back after 09/01, or contact your preferred educational provider directly.
Why is my CE cycle date incorrect?
Your board sends CE Broker updated information every Saturday. We recommend allowing at least one week from the time you renew for the updates to take place.
How do I renew my license?
Once you have completed all your required CE and the compliance status in your CE Broker account reflects Complete, log in to the Ohio eLicense system, go to your DASHBOARD, click OPTIONS, and renew.
The CE compliance status in your CE Broker account must be Complete before you can renew your license on the board's website because this is a hard-stop board.
If reactivating a license, you are no longer required to show proof of CE for previous cycles.
Am I exempt from my requirements?
The following exemptions are automatically reported to CE Broker by the Board and
do not require any action by the licensee:
- Licensees who are over 65 years old
- Licensees who have held their license for more than 30 years
