If you provide online courses, you may break them down into segments that can be completed during a single "sitting." For example, you might offer a 5-hour course that is divided into segments that are 0.4 to 0.6 hours each. Such courses may be listed in CE Broker as Modular Courses.
By marking a course as Modular, you can report credit each time a participant completes a segment. For instance, a participant enrolled in a 5-hour course might complete a 0.5-hour segment in the morning and then complete a 0.7-hour segment that afternoon. You could report the hours for each segment (0.5 and 0.7) or you could report the total for the day (1.2). Credit will be granted each time it's reported, not to exceed the total hours available for the course.
Why Mark a Course as Modular?
While it would be possible to report each different course segment as its own separate course, there are some advantages to listing them all together as a single Modular course.
The Primary Reason to Put Several Segments Together as One Course are as Followed:
-
From the perspective of a licensee: The licensee can receive credit for segments completed, even if the segment(s) do not meet the Board's minimum course length requirements.
-
From the perspective of each board/council: If the course routes for approval, the regulating entity will only have one course to review instead of several, expediting the process.
-
From the perspective of the educational provider: The minimum hour course requirements set by the Board (for instance, a one-hour minimum course length) are not applicable to each segment of the course.
To Create a Modular Course on CE Broker:
1. Log into your CE Broker provider account and click the Courses tab on the far left.
2. On the courses page, a second menu will appear. Click on the New Course button.
3. Proceed through Steps 1-3 as normal by reviewing the Board requirements, entering in the basic course information, and selecting the delivery method. Please note, in order to indicate that your course is modular, the delivery method must be Anytime.
4. In Step 4, Advanced Delivery Method, you will be asked if the course is Modular. Click on the Yes button.
When indicating a course is Modular, you attest that multiple completed course credit postings for a participant reflect the completion of different segments of the course.
5. Proceed through the remaining steps as normal. Once you have reviewed the course information, click on the Finish button to submit your event to the selected regulating entities for approval.
Rosters for Modular courses may have multiple successful postings for a single participant. When a course is marked as modular, you'll notice "(modular)" at the end of the course title. With this designation, a participant may appear multiple times on the roster with successful postings.
If a licensee's regulating entity does not allow duplicate courses and your course is not marked as modular, they will not receive credit for any segments completed after you report the first segment.
