Live events, such as symposiums and conferences, may have multiple CE sessions being offered simultaneously. When this happens, it’s physically impossible for an individual licensee to attend every available session and receive full credit for the entire event. These events may be listed on CE Broker as Courses with Concurrent Sessions.
Indicating that your live event has Concurrent Sessions streamlines the course creation process. Instead of listing individual sessions as separate courses, you may create a single submission for the entire event. Doing so also allows licensees to receive credit from your event even if their regulating entity does not typically allow partial credit.
Not all regulating agencies allow for Concurrent Sessions. In these cases, the system will not allow you to complete your course application with the Concurrent Sessions option selected. Each individual session would need to be entered as a separate course.
To Create a Course with Concurrent Sessions on CE Broker:
1. Log into your CE Broker Provider account and click the Courses tab on the far left.
2. On the courses page, a second menu will appear. Click on the + New Course tab.
3. Proceed through Steps 1-3 as normal by reviewing the Board requirements, entering in the basic course information, and selecting the delivery method.
Note: In order to indicate that your event has concurrent sessions, the delivery method must be Live.
4. On Step 4, Advanced Delivery Method, you will be asked if the course is a Series or if it has Concurrent Sessions. Click on the Yes button under "Is This a Concurrent Sessions (breakout) course?"
5. After filling out your offering information on Step 5, enter in the hours that will be awarded for your event. You will be asked to enter the maximum number of hours a participant can realistically obtain, as well as a breakdown of the total hours available.
The maximum number of hours a participant can receive will be less than the total number of hours being offered. If they can attend all available sessions, the course does not need to be marked as having Concurrent Sessions.
Example: Your event may offer 2 hours of training in Medical Errors and 2 hours of General credit, for a total of 4 hours available. However, if these courses are happening concurrently, it’s physically impossible for a licensee to receive all 4 credit hours. Therefore, you would enter 2 for the maximum number of hours they can receive.
6. Proceed through the remaining steps as normal. Once you have reviewed the course information on your application, click on the Finish button to submit your event to the selected Board(s) for approval.
When reporting completion credit for a course with Concurrent Sessions, the system will not allow you to submit full credit. If reporting using easy Excel upload, your Excel sheet must be formatted using the Partial Credit guidelines.
