What is FTP?
If you want to know what we mean by "FTP" before approaching your IT Department, this section is for you.
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the simplest and most secure way to exchange files over the Internet. Whether you know it or not, your IT Department most likely uses FTP all the time.
The CE Broker system would prepare a file for you and place it in an FTP site. An FTP site is like a large filing cabinet. Just like a traditional filing cabinet, the person who does the filing has the option to label and organize the files however they see fit. They also decide which files to keep locked and which remain public. With an FTP site, we'll secure your information and give your IT department a User ID and Password.
When your IT Department downloads the file from the Internet they're actually transferring the file to your computer over the Internet. This is why the "T" (transfer) is in FTP.
FTP File Formats
FTP accommodates XML. The same file formats are used whether transmitting via FTP or Web Services.
These data elements are available via FTP:
-
Completed course credit
-
Courses
-
Locations
-
Publishing
-
Child Providers
Since FTP is not an instant communication method, the License Validation data type is not available via FTP.
When your IT Department is preparing to upload a course completion file, please have them reach out to our Support Team via email at support@cebroker.com and request the following:
-
FTP Host Name / Address
-
User ID
-
Password
-
Folder Name
We look forward to hearing from your IT Department!
