This article covers CME exemptions for all four Texas Medical Board radiologic professions: Medical Radiologic Technologist, Limited Medical Radiologic Technologist, Radiologist Assistant Certificate, and Non-Certified Technician.
Understanding Exemption Types
Most exemptions for these professions require a written request that board staff review and approve before they’re applied in CE Broker. One exemption — based on your ARRT certification status — doesn’t require board approval at all, but it isn’t available to every profession on this page.
Exemptions That Satisfy All Requirements
- Catastrophic Illness — written request with documentation, reviewed by board staff.
- Active Military Service — written request with documentation, reviewed by board staff.
- Residence Outside the United States — written request with documentation, reviewed by board staff.
- Other Good Cause — written request with documentation, reviewed by board staff.
Exemptions That Satisfy All Requirements Except Human Trafficking Training
- ARRT Certification — available to Medical Radiologic Technologists, Limited Medical Radiologic Technologists, and Radiologist Assistant Certificate holders only (not available to Non-Certified Technicians). Unlike the exemptions above, this one doesn’t route to the board for review or approval. It fulfills every CE requirement for the cycle except Human Trafficking Training, which you must still complete and report separately.
How to Report an Exemption
- Log in to your CE Broker account and select your credential.
- Click Report CE +, then open the Additional Options tab.
- Choose the licensing period the exemption applies to. Click Learn More to review the exemption details, then select Report to begin.
- Answer the prompts and upload your supporting documentation.
- Click Submit.
Exemption Statuses
For exemptions that route to the board, your request will show one of these statuses in the Course History tab:
- Pending — under board review.
- Approved.
- Disapproved — contact the board directly with questions.
- Revoked — an exemption reported in error and removed at your request.
Board review times vary, so submit your written request well before your license expiration date — at least 30 days is a safe target. The ARRT Certification exemption doesn’t go through this review process since it isn’t routed to the board.
